Your business deserves simple, stress-free bookkeeping. This income and expense tracker helps you take control of your finances without the headache. Designed for teacher side hustler and small business owners, this spreadsheet template expenses tool makes tracking money easy—even if you hate numbers. Ditch the bookkeeping overwhelm and keep more of your hard-earned money.

As I’m writing this blog post about an easy-to-use bookkeeping template for small business owners, it’s that time of year many people dread. Tax time.
Even though I have a university degree in accounting, and worked in that area for years, I am notoriously bad about keeping my own business records up to date. I tend to put it off until the income and expenses written on sticky notes and scraps of paper pile up all over my desk. Then I spend far too long getting my transactions squared away.
Perhaps this sounds like someone you know? 😉
Imagine if you could easily and quickly keep your side hustle transactions up to date, keep it current with your banking statements, and always know the state of your finances?

Have You Used Other Bookkeeping Spreadsheets or Apps?
How many spreadsheet systems have you tried? I’ve tried so many I’ve stopped counting, and they all disappointed me in the end. There was always something that just didn’t work well, or made the job more difficult instead of easy.
Have you seen the promotions for the subscription accounting resources? The ones that promise your life will be so much better if you use their app? You’ll look like the happy, smiling, people on their webpage.
I was never in that picture.
That’s why I decided to custom design a bookkeeping spreadsheet template that will make this task easy.
Yes, I wrote a four letter word.
Easy.
Take a look at how this spreadsheet will transform a frustrating task into something that empowers you. You’ll love using this spreadsheet, and you’ll feel reassured and satisfied to know that you are
In control of your money.

You Don’t Need a Bookkeeping Background
This easy to use bookkeeping template is designed for small business owners, digital entrepreneurs, side hustlers, and anyone wanting control of their money. You don’t have to know all about debits and credits, how to create an income statement, or even how to set up a chart of accounts. This spreadsheet is for non-accounting people.
Yes, it’s for you.
It has a video tutorial to walk you through:
- Setting up your spreadsheet template to match your business.
- A sample page to practice entering transactions without messing up your books.
- Automatic income and expense summaries for every month.
- How to print your income and expense statements. These are also called profit and loss statements.
It will literally only take you minutes a day or week to keep your small business finances organized. You can conquer your bookkeeping tasks!
Features of This Bookkeeping Spreadsheet Template
Customize Your Accounts for Your Business

On the Chart of Accounts sheet, you’ll begin by entering all the places from which you receive income. Things like sales and affiliate income. You can break it down into different places. For me, that’s TPT, Etsy, Made by Teachers, and other online shops I own.
Next, you’ll enter all of the expenses. Some common examples of business expenses are included for you, which you can keep or change. You’ll see things like
- Commissions and fees
- Software subscriptions
- Office expenses
- Courses and professional development
Plus other common expenses you might find on a tax reporting form.
Set these up once and then they’ll show up on every page in a drop down data entry list. It’s almost magical.
Let’s Talk About Dynamic Transaction Entry
Dynamic data entry means that the mundane, routine, and time consuming entry tasks are already done for you.
When you enter a transaction for your sales, you’ll enter one number for the date. If it’s the 3rd of March, you’ll enter a 3. Did it happen on the 17th of June? Enter a 17.
The full date and year will appear automatically in your sheet. No more wasting time formatting dates for you! It’s all done for you.
Next, when you enter the source of the transaction, you simply choose from a drop down list. These are the income sources you created for your own business in your own chart of accounts. It’s so fast and easy to just click on the income source you want.
No more typing in the names and fixing typos in each transaction. You already set that up when you put your income sources in your own chart of accounts.
What If You Get a New Expense or a New Income Stream?
As your business grows and becomes more successful, you may have new income streams. Or perhaps you might have a new expense. These can happen any time of the year.
It’s so simple to add them to every page of your new bookkeeping spreadsheet system.
- Go to the Chart of Accounts sheet.
- Enter the new income stream name, or expense name.
- Boom. You’re done. The new account will appear on all of your monthly sheets.
How easy is that?
Financial Summaries Done For You
Every month, the spreadsheet template has an income summary and an expense summary. You’ll see at a glance how much money came in and how much was paid out.
It’s automatically done for you. You don’t need to type in a formula. You don’t need to scroll to the bottom of a long page to see them.
You’ll see everything at a glance. The summaries are right on the left side of the page, clear and easy to read.
What’s even better, is you’ll have charts and graphs at the top of each entry page. You’ll see at a glance if you’re meeting your income goals and staying within your budgeted expenses.

Profit and Loss Statements for Tax Time
One of the most loathsome tasks in bookkeeping is gathering all the data and creating your income statement, (also known as the profit and loss statement.) But it’s essential during tax time.
Have you paid someone to create this for you? This spreadsheet template brings all the income and expense data together for you on one sheet. It’s already summed up for each account. All you need to do is put in the totals and print your statement.
It doesn’t get much better than that.
Imagine how much your tax accountant will appreciate you if you bring in the profit and loss statement already done.
Imagine how much money you can save by using this spreadsheet template instead of paying a monthly fee to a subscription accounting software app.
